2005 Fall Holcomb Motorsports Outlaw Civil Wars at "The ROCK"

October 22-23, 2005

For Immediate Release
ROBBINS CLAIMS $10,000 TOP PRIZE IN ROCKINGHAM’S FALL CIVIL WARS

ROCKINGHAM – Terry Robbins buried the competition with a steady series of 4.50s Sunday and won the $10,000 top prize in the featured Outlaw 10.5 portion of the Holcomb Motorsports Fall Civil Wars at  Rockingham Dragway.

Robbins shared the spotlight with Darrin Hoyle of Taylorsville, who won his fourth consecutive Limited Street title; Scott Turner of Concord, who won wire-to-wire in Real Street; Greg Lane of New Bern, who used a near perfect .003 reaction time in the final to win the Open Comp title; and Mauro Vitale of Gloucester, Va., who drove his 1988 Ford Mustang to victory in the Drag Radial class.

Robbins, who was the No. 1 qualifier last spring in the debut of his 2002 Chevrolet Camaro, qualified only 15th this time.

Nevertheless, he was almost flawless on race day, posting the quickest time in each round to beat No. 1 qualifier Craig Miller of
Savannah, Ga., Jared Brunner of Radford, Va., Stacy McIntyre of Lawndale and, finally, No. 5 starter Rome Berry of Miami, Fla.

 Hoyle, unbeaten in
Limited Street races at The Rock over the last two seasons, got a free pass when Keith Szabo of Gainesville, Ga., was guilty of a final round foul start.  Hoyle pushed his 1969 Camaro to the quickest time of the weekend (4.885 seconds) to beat No. 1 qualifier Terry Woodson of White, Ga., in the semifinals.

Turner never was really pressed en route to the
Real Street title.  Only runner-up Jeff Plemmons of Old Fort was within a tenth of a second of Turner’s 1967 Camaro and his best (5.404) wasn’t even in the ballpark to Turner’s slowest competitive run (5.351).
