2005 Fast Fords in the Spring

Holcomb Motorsports Fast Fords in the Spring was held Saturday March 19th at Rockingham Dragway.. A host of Fast Fords showed up to do battle on the Rock quarter mile asphalt. Weather conditions were cool and cloudy, which made excellent conditions for making horsepower!

Back Road Racin’, a ¼ mile heads up class for street legal cars. Eliminations are run back to back. . Saturday’s final round was won by only 5 hundredths of a second, with Owen Spry of Newland N.C. in his 88 Mustang winning over Caleb Skinner of Benson’s 95 GT. The winning time was an astounding 9.210 @ 149.40 over Skinner’s close but no cigar 9.267 @ 158.78 .. And those are street cars ……Wow.

 The 6.0 index class saw some close side-by-side racin’ as well. The semi finals saw Marion Nesbitt of Murrells Inlet Sc defeat Eddie Jones of Benson NC 6.088 to Jones breaking out 5.991. Nesbitt advanced to the finals but lost to Daniel Frazier of Ramseur NC. Frazier won with a 6.202 @ 107.72 MPH to Nesbitt’s out of the groove 7.653.

  7.0 index finals saw Steve Frazier of Ramseur NC take the win over Al Leggett of Williamston NC with a 7.092 @ 92.62 MPH to a breaking out 6.956 @ 98.48 MPH..

   Pro Open Comp action saw Dale Sanders defeat “Pa “ Gary Sanders in the semi’s, then advance to the finals.. Only to fall to R.L. Smith’s 65 Mustang. Smith ran a 10.51 ET on a 10.49 dial in to Sanders losing 13.21 on a 13.11 dial in.

  Foot brake winner was Billy Stephens of Whiteville NC over Dale Sanders of Eagle Springs (yep, the same one that was in the Open Comp final).. The winning combination was a 6.580 Et on a 6.53 dial in to the runner up 8.35 ET on a 8.37 dial in.

  Trophy Street winner was Dale Sanders of Eagle Springs NC, (yep the same one that was in the finals of Open Comp AND Footbrake).  Sanders defeated Reuben Pell of Winston Salem NC  13.29 on a 13.19 dial in to Pell’s losing 12.28 on a 12..10 dial in.

In other track action, Tracy Cockman of Bunnlevel NC laid down a 7.04 @ 201 MPH pass in TESTING , trying to sort out his turbocharged Outlaw 10.5 Mustang..Looks like he may have his combination worked out for 2005..

In the all Ford car show, Best of Show went to Aaron Stiles 66 Shelby Mustang.
