KIRK WINS FLOWMASTER MONEY IN FALL CIVIL WARS RACE

ROCKINGHAM – Steve Kirk Jr. of Monroe, Ga., drove his 1968 Chevrolet Camaro to a $10,000 payday Sunday by winning the Flowmaster Super Street title at the fall version of the Holcomb Motorsports Civil Wars at Rockingham Dragway.

Kirk easily handled Jeff Tyson's Snow Hill-based late model Ford Cobra in the final, 4.653 seconds-
4.817 seconds, but earned his biggest victory in the semifinals where his 4.626 second time took out the quickest of the Cobras.

Tim Lynch of Woodstock, Ga., had driven his 2002 Cobra to a time of 4.615, best of eliminations, on a quarterfinal bye run.  However, he couldn't match that time in the semis, slowing to 4.702 against Kirk.

Other winners of the increasingly popular fall street race included Darrin Hoyle of Hickory, winner in Limited Street; Stephen Gerard of Chocowinity, winner in Hot Street; and Kevin Robinson of Blytheville, S.C., and Mark Young of Kennesaw, Ga., the Open Comp winners on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Young earned a double-breakout decision over Shane Williams of Knoxville, Tenn., to cap his Open Comp victory.  Young was clocked at 11.928 seconds in the final, .042 under his 11.970 target.  However, Williams' foul was the more flagrant as his 1999 Mustang was clocked in 12.650 seconds, a full .05 under his target number.

Jason Richards of Gastonia drove his 1963 Chevy II to a narrow win over Sanford's Jason Thomas to win the 6.0 Index class and Karl J. Morris Jr. of Charleston, S.C., forced Dwayne Moore of Princeton, West Va., into a breakout in the final round of the 7.0 Index class.
