MARTIN UPSET WINNER IN HOLCOMB MOTORSPORTS CIVIL WAR EVENT
Teddy Martin of Charleston, West Va., with an assist from Aberdeen's Greg Munn, claimed the featured Super Street championship Sunday in the wrapup to the fifth annual Holcomb Motorsports 5.0 Civil Wars Ford Festival at Steve Earwood's Rockingham Dragway.
Martin, the No. 1 qualifier, drove is 1990 Mustang past the 1969 Chevy Camaro of Morganton's Michael Donnahue in the final round after Munn had upset former champion and pre-race favorite Elias DeLaTorres of Key Largo, Fla., in the first round.
Other winners included Kyle Marcengill of Spartanburg, S.C., in the Carolina Outlaw Pure Street class; Blaney Taylor Jr. of Vanceboro in Open Comp; Kevin Cockman of Bunn Level, who upset No. 1 qualifier Philip Clemmons of Richmond, Va., for the Carolina Renegade title; Travis Matthis of Morganton in ATS Performance Trophy Stock; Wayne Cusaac of Timmonsville, S.C., in the Pro Street Doorslammers Challenge; and Kenneth Cochran of Lexington in Trophy Street.
In the Carolina Outlaw class, McIntyre upset No. 1 qualifier Samuel Vincent of Graham, Ky., in round two but, despite a .023 starting line advantage, was unable to chase down Marcengill's Camaro in the final.
