2001 Holcomb 5.0 Civil War Racing Series
WARNER CLAIMS FLOWMASTER SUPER STREET AT ROCKINGHAM
ROCKINGHAM - Chad Warner of Covington, Ga., upset No. 1 qualifier Terry Robbins of Henrietta, Tenn., in the first round Sunday and went on to win the $7,500 Flowmaster Super Street title at the 11th annual Holcomb Motorsports 5.0 Civil Wars at Rockingham Dragway.
Warner, driving a 1967 Camaro, ran the eighth-mile course in 4.915 seconds at 148.76 miles per hour in the final to turn back Michael Hill of Washington, Ga., whose Mustang was caught in 4.938 seconds at 148.43 mph.
Robbins was on the point of the quickest field in the history of the Flowmaster Series at 4.735 seconds in his 1992 Camaro.Warner qualified eighth at 4.864 seconds.
Jeff Tyson of Snow Hill won the Southern Street Car Association Outlaw Pure Street title by pushing his 1989 Mustang past the 1968 Chevy Camaro of Kinston's Todd Jackson in the final.
Other winners included Scott Winfield of Kinston in Wild Street, Dave Salyer of Rock Hill, S.C., in Open Comp, Billy Bell of Bell Haven in Limited Street, Michael Goza of Dallas, Ga., in Carolina Renegade, Raymond Turner of Loris, S.C., in E.F.I, Tommy Bradshaw of Burgaw in Pro Bracket, Mark Anderson of Winston-Salem in Sportsman Bracket and Allen Tuttle of King in Sanford Ford Trophy Street.
