2004 All-Ford Saturday
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - Fayetteville's Robert Morris used a spectacular starting line advantage to beat Tracy Cockman of Bunn Level in the final round of the feature Wild Street class during the Holcomb Motorsports All-Ford Saturday at Steve Earwood's Rockingham Dragway.
Cockman had the quickest Mustang in the field and dipped to 5.199 seconds at 137.37 miles per hour to beat Wilson's Ricky Parnell in one of the two semifinals. In the final, Cocking had the quicker time, 5.310 to 5.459, but the difference was at the starting line where Morris had an insurmountable .314 of a second advantage.
Other winners in the one day race were Danny Cook of Coats in Mild Street, Charlotte's Caleb Skinner in the special Back Road Racin' class feature an "instant green" start with no handicaps, Shane Williams of Seven Lakes in Open Comp, Joe Seymour of Rembert, S.C., in Footbrake and Cameron Pierce of Chapin, S.C., in Trophy Street.
Like Morris, Williams used his starting line skills to secure the Open Comp trophy. A .127 of a second advantage at the start handed him a narrow win over Dave Batchelor of Middlesex. Batchelor actually was closer to his target time but still couldn't catch Williams who won by .075 of a second.
In addition to the on-track competition, the event featured more than 60 Ford Motor Company show cars and trucks.
